Expressive Arts and Design

Ladysmith Infant and Nursery School values the role of the creative arts in developing the "whole" child and achievement in its widest sense. It is essential in developing fully rounded, able children who can relate to other people and tackle life's challenges with a resilient attitude. Art, music, dance, drama, design technology and other creative subjects give children way to express themselves, resulting in joyous and happy people who can communicate in a range of ways.

As a large, spacious school, the children and families benefit from:

*A dedicated music room with class sets of djembe drums, ukuleles, percussion instruments and keyboards

*An art and DT room for teaching whole class art sessions, fully stocked with a large variety of different media

*A children’s kitchen complete with two double ovens, enough equipment for whole class teaching and built-in child height worktops. Food technology is very important to all at Ladysmith, with children being aware of the link between the food grown in the garden, cooked in the kitchen and eaten in the canteen.

*A large hall and additional canteen space for dance, drama and the many visitors who share their expertise on a regular basis. Recently we have had visits from  a dance teacher and a painter, both of whom have shared their passion for their subjects with the children.
