At Ladysmith Infant and Nursery school, when we refer to the ‘Curriculum’, we not only mean the New National Curriculum (which as a maintained school we are required to teach) but also the range of extracurricular activities and the ‘hidden curriculum’ (what children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave).
We have developed a highly successful Early Years and Primary learning environment that reflects practice that is always aware of the developmental needs of the whole child; and explores learning strategies and experiences to support the range of need as pupils move through the key stages.
We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills so that they can achieve their full potential. Our scheme based on the "Characteristics of Learning" has developed over the last two years and children are able to talk about their own learning behaviour using animals to represent each key behaviour. Year group curriculum letters detail what is being covered in each subject over each term and we have added a link below to the National Curriculum and the Letter and Sounds Programme which we use for the teaching of phonics. Our reading scheme books are a mixture of Oxford Reading Scheme, Rising Stars and Bug Club the last of which is also available online. Our Mathematics curriculum aims to build mathematical fluency, the understanding of key concepts and the ability to reason and solve problems by applying mathematical skills. Assemblies are held in class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Monday, we meet for an assembly that sets the theme or area for the week and on Friday we hold our "Celebration" assembly.
