Welcome!
The governors, staff and whole Ladysmith community would like to welcome you to our Nursery! Ladysmith Nursery is part of Ladysmith Infant School, which was proud to be awarded the “Outstanding “grade in its last OFSTED Inspection.
Being within a school dedicated to young children our Nursery children benefit from a large and spacious building with a separate dining room, Studio room for physical play, music, dance and drama activities, garden area and the ability to link up with the foundation stage children in the Reception Classes.
They also have access to the extra resources which the School offers such as our Forest School, Children's kitchen, Music and Art rooms, set of iPads and fully qualified SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator).
Meet the Team!
The nursery is led by two trained and fully qualified teachers who lead a team nursery practitioners and meal time assistants. This small, friendly team is part of the larger school with access to additional expertise where needed. Click here to find out more about us!
Our Ethos
At Ladysmith Nursery we combine childcare with high-quality education for three and four year olds. Our experienced and highly trained staff aim to create an environment that is caring, exciting and – above all – fun to be part of.
We all know that parents and carers are the most important people in the lives of their children and we believe that the closer our links with you, the more effective the learning becomes. That is why we work very closely with you to ensure the children in our care get the very best out of their time here as they prepare for their next big adventure – school!
The Early Years Foundation Stage
Our Early Years Curriculum provides learning adventures that engage children so that they are self motivated, interested, happy and healthy. We value each child’s unique personality and character, their efforts, culture and their achievements in all it's many forms.
The Early Years Nursery team quickly get to know the interests of individuals and uses this knowledge to plan "in the moment", moving with the children as they undertake active play and reflect on their learning.
Our unique approach to the "Characteristics of Learning" puts the key Foundation Stage learning behaviours at the heart of the school. The children learn to talk about themselves as learners as they progress through the school - and it all starts in the nursery! Click here for a link to the animal symbols that we use the help them to understand abstract ideas such as "concentration".
Our Environment
In addition to the recently upgraded nursery building, which is light and spacious, we also benefit from :
*The amazing Forest School - right behind the nursery building! This also has a Forest School room fully equipped with wellies, macs and waterproof trousers.
*Our School hall - the nursery children join the main school periodically for assemblies and other events
*Our outside space, both our nursery area with garden corner, mud kitchen and sand pit and the much larger Reception area complete with HUGE sandpit!
*The school kitchen with child-size worktops and class sets of cooking equipment, Art and Music rooms are all available for Nursery use should they be required
